Careers in the Fashion Industry: Alumni Seminar

The Division of Textiles and Clothing now hosts an annual alumni seminar, where both undergraduate and graduate Textiles alumni return to UC Davis to speak to current students, faculty, and staff.  Alumni are also invited to come participate in the event and network with fellow alumni as well as current Textiles students.  The 2005 seminar was our first Alumni Day, and we plan on continuing the tradition each fall.  If you are interested in finding out more information regarding the alumni seminar, or are interested in helping plan the event for 2007, please contact Joan Chandler or our department peer advisor.

Preview Day

Preview Day is a full day of activities just for prospective UC Davis students.  The Division of Textiles and Clothing proudly participates in this event to inform prospective students of our department and to give visitors an opportunity to speak to current students in our major.  This day is a perfect time for high school students, future transfer students, and their families to visit Davis and attend student panels and take campus tours.  One of the most important events of Preview Day is the major fair at which representatives from each major in the university are present.  This event is usually scheduled for the second or third Saturday of October.  Search the UC Davis website close to the date of the event or email our advising staff at the beginning of Fall quarter (last week in September) for more detailed information.

Picnic Day

The Division of Textiles and Clothing is one of the many departments and student clubs that enthusiastically partakes in the festivities of Picnic Day.  Picnic Day is the largest student-run event in the United States and is the annual Open House for the UC Davis.  Our department’s tradition is to provide a tie-dyeing station for all attendees to enjoy.  You have the freedom to choose your t-shirt, your tie-dyeing technique, and your dye colors.  At the end of the day when the shirts are dry, you can leave with amazing memories and a uniquely-designed t-shirt from the Textiles booth!  Picnic Day is usually scheduled for the second or third Saturday in April.

Black, White, and Pink Ball

The Black, White, and Pink Ball is the annual, end-of-the-year celebratory banquet for all Textiles and Clothing students, faculty, and staff, as well as for members of the Student Fashion Association.  At this lovely semi-formal event, we commemorate exceptional students and faculty members, and wrap up the year over a catered dinner with fantastic company, music, raffle prizes, and a memorable photo slideshow.  This banquet is usually held the weekend before Memorial Day.
